PRESS RELEASE

ONE CORK CONDEMNS THE FAILURE OF CORK FINE GAEL TDs & SENATORS TO SIGN ICTU's CHARTER FOR FAIR CONDITIONS AT WORK

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) Charter for Fair Conditions at Work commits to a living wage, fair hours of work, the right to union representation, respect and equality at work and fair public procurement.

Over the past number of months, ICTU has canvassed all national politicians to pledge their support for the protection of workers and their families by signing the charter.

Of the 130 TDs and Senators that signed the Charter for Fair Conditions at Work, no local Cork Fine Gael TD or Senator was prepared to support it.

ONE Cork, represents the combined membership of twenty unions in Cork.

Mike Lyons, spokesperson said “We are appalled at the stance taken by local Fine Gael TDs and Senators and believe that the ICTU Charter results reflect a blatant disregard by Fine Gael TD’s and Senators for workers' rights in Cork by refusing to pledge their support for the charter”.
