Health Sector Organising Initiative

Health is a most demanding and complex sector in which to work and comprises a vast array of workers of numerous professions and categories, all working to ensure that healthcare is delivered to the highest standard, safely and with care.

We also know that there are major resource difficulties in the health area, none better than the workers themselves who face these challenges every day.

Based on our research and with at least five trade unions operating in this sector, we made health one of our key priority areas to target.  We hope to build better relations, create new working relations within and between categories of workers and trade unions with the common goal of advancing the needs and improving the conditions of workers by increased strength and influence.

The group comprises IFUT, IMPACT, INMO, SIPTU, TEEU and UCATT.

Our work began in the Summer of 2015 in the Cork University Hospital campus and we have been rewarded by our activists and shop stewards engaging with us from the start and sticking with us all the way.  A number of activities organised in Autumn 2015 were very well attended and included a multi-union shop steward forum, where many workers met each other for the first time, and a pensions information forum, which was open to workers and trade union members in CUH.  We have also had successes for different groups of workers including permanency and improved conditions in the hospital.

Now in 2016, we have planned a range of new activities, in CUH and beyond in the wider health sector, so stay in touch to find out more.

Upcoming events and campaigns will be advertised online via this website, facebook page and twitter accounts, where you can follow us and keep up to date with all our activity.

If you have any queries or concerns directly relating to your job in the health sector, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at contact@onemovement.work  and we can point you in the right direction.
